Mortis Arrives Just in Time for a Scary SQUASH!

Mortis

With Halloween coming up quickly, I thought it would be fun to get a squash from one of the most awesome spooky wrestlers during WCW’s golden era, that being Mortis (aka Chris Kanyon)!

Seriously, look at that outfit. Just awesome, and if that’s not enough for you pay close attention and you can even get a quick glimpse at his official logo, complete with a skull for the letter O in his name. Say what you will about WCW’s graphics department (and I have a super cool induction coming up next week that will highlight some of their insanity), but that is just perfect. Plus he has James Vandenberg (aka the Sinister Minister) telling us fans at home that Mortis is, and I am just quoting here, “the master of forbidden blood sports!” Throw in this fantastic theme and I am ready to declare this the greatest intro in the history of professional wrestling.

Mortis’ foe on this here WCW Pro ep would be none other than Jerry Flynn. He may be LIGHTNING FOOT, but I doubt he’s ever competed in any forbidden blood sports, let alone mastered them!

So the match gets started and Mortis scores some shoulder blocks in the corner, but Flynn fires back with some kicks, including one that sends himself flying over the top rope.

Mortis doesn’t take kindly to this offense however and soon enough comes back with a reverse kick of his own and a nice looking Russian leg sweep.

He eventually lures Flynn into the corner and hits him with a cool looking rocker dropper off the middle rope. I loved wacky new moves like that an Kanyon would always come up with stuff I’d never seen.

Mortis gives the symbol for someone flatlining, but we don’t get that…instead we get a second rope Samoan drop. And shock of shock, it looks great. I’ve been asked before who was someone I wished my younger self would have paid more attention to in their prime. And maybe it’s just the apple cider talking, but Mortis would be near the top of the list!
