Mick Foley Battles Rocky! Rock & Sock Connection Implode? Not Quite!

Mick Foley

Watching the Philadelphia Eagles game today as I work on this and they sure do love to blare the classic Rocky theme. And why not? It’s one of the greatest themes ever made. However, it reminded me of something that was not the greatest, well, anything, which was the time when Mick Foley battled Rocky Balboa in a TNA ring!

I mean, it wasn’t actually Sylvester Stallone or anything, but rather a cardboard cut of the Italian Stallion. That didn’t stop Foley from getting up in his face and trash talking, nor did it stop Rocky from landing a few shots right to Foley’s jaw!

But Foley was able to weather the early storm and come back with a mighty clothesline. He then used his weight to his advantage and bulled Balboa into the corner and followed that up with some fisticuffs of his own. Having staggered the former boxing champion, he channeled his inner Thunderlips and lifted him up for a giant suplex.

On the outside, Mick looked less than pleased. Meaning Rocky’s manager Mick, not Foley. Confusing I know.

Foley continued his assault with a nasty piledriver. Jeez, Mick, be more careful, you almost broke his neck! It’s a work you know!

Deciding it was time to go home to Adrian Colette, Foley looked to pay tribute to another Rocky, this time his old partner in the Rock & Sock Connection. He runs back and forth across the ring before somehow tripping on his foe (!!!) and then dropping an elbow to pick up the win. Sadly Balboa never got another match in the company and faded into endless Creed sequels instead.
