Another WrestleMania is in the books and…well…it was an event that happened I guess. Kinda crazy to see a promotion so nuclear hot put on a second night main event that quite frankly may have been the worst since, I dunno, maybe Mania IX. And SPEAKING OF THAT MAIN EVENT…
Roger W kicks us off with…”After seeing all the negative social media comments about WM 41. Is it Gooker nominee worthy?”
I don’t think the entire weekend of shows is Gooker worthy, as there was a lot of good stuff on there. But I don’t see how Cody vs. Cena isn’t currently the front runner for this year’s worst of the worst. Cena looked really old and slow. It really reminded me of those WCW PPVs back in the day that had incredible undercards and then like Warrior and Hogan would come out and make you forget about all the fun stuff you had seen on the exact same show. Plus the booking of the finish was idiotic. Cody looked like a geek.
SPEAKING OF IDIOTIC AND LOOKING LIKE A GEEK, Eric K asks…”What on earth was the deal with Joe Hendry losing in like 3 minutes?”
Yep, he looked really dumb. But that’s ok, because he was at WrestleMania and he lost to Randy Orton. That’s what I am told at least. To me I look at a champion of another promotion, TNA, and he looks completely stupid not only losing but losing then getting RKO’ed after the match in the geekiest manner that ever geeked. All those folks defending this really need to send me a list of all the times WWE has “partnered” with another promotion and when it worked out great for all involved.
And as if on cue, Tommy S asks…”WWE has bought AAA. How long until it’s just Hunter’s third brand and looks nothing like a traditional lucha group?”
I mean, that’s inevitable. This is how this company operates: buy an entity, shake it for whatever change is left in it, then dissolve it. That’s not gonna change and if you really, truly believe it is I have decades of data to back me up. Save the “Vince is gone, everything is great with Trips” rhetoric, that is only going to make you look sillier in the long run.
Thomas C has money on the line apparently so he asks…”Perhaps you could help settle a bet. Now, I know you love Mr. Wonderful’s wonderful entrance music in WCW, and I have to admit, the male vocals were sung wonderfully and the female vocals, though not sung as wonderfully, had wonderful lyrics assigned. Years after that theme was first played, The Maestro came along. The disagreement is this: was the Maestro’s theme just a re-worked version of Mr. Wonderful’s theme, subtracting the vocals and adding extra flourishes on the piano? Thoughts? Am I on the mark, or is my brain just wanting to hear Mr. Wonderful’s theme instead of the Maestro’s when the latter had his entrances?”
Tell your buddy to pay up – it’s Mr. Wonderful’s theme as an instrumental. And I for one LOVED the over the top lady blaring out ridiculous lyrics in a faux operatic style! In fact, let’s all listen to that now.
Mike M has a pocket full of quarters…”What would a WrestleCrap-themed pinball machine look like?”
I actually had a Data East Royal Rumble pinball machine, at least twice as I recall, and I made a custom translite for the backbox that made it WrestleCrap Radio Rumble. I eventually sold it, simply because as I tell my collector friends, “You can’t keep ’em all.” Royal Rumble is the best wrestling pinball machine ever made, really fun and with a LOT to do on it. Compare that with Stern’s WrestleMania pinball which pretty much sucks. I guess then to answer your original question, if you want a BAD pinball machine, it would be the Stern one. 😉
Avi K ponders…”Do you think the Rockers will ever get inducted into the HOF? They may be on the shortlist of best tag teams to never officially have a run as champions. Despite his many, many firings from the business & his many, many questionable transgressions outside of the business, Marty was a talent in the ring. At the very least it would give HBK another induction.”
That’s what it’s all about – bringing bankable stars back over and over. Only thing blocking this would be if they think they can actually trust Marty to sober up for a couple shots, which if history be our guide, they probably can’t.
Rhett F asks…”I saw that Will Ospreay was in Indy this weekend for Squared Circle Expo…are you going to meet him?”
I pondered it, but I didn’t. That was honestly a mistake as I saw pics of my buddies Dan and Casey there and it looked like it was a fantastic time. I want to say they asked me to come to one of the earlier events as a guest/talent/vendor whatever and I passed on it, which again was a mistake in hindsight I think. But to be honest, it’s been very hard for me to do conventions/signings without Blade by my side. This seems like it’s a well run event by good folks, so maybe I’ll get out of my shell next time.
Long-time reader William M wraps us up with…’I’ve been a long time reader of your site, since I was about 16 years old. In 2018 I was sent to prison for a crime I didn’t commit, & I asked my family & friends not to send me money, but to send me books. I got my friend to send me The Death Of WCW, & I must have read it about 8 times during my last 2 years there. Fabulous read. It got me through some really rough times. Anyway, I’ve been home for about 6ish months & I’ve been catching up on all the wrestling I missed, as well as all the Wrestle Crap I missed. But there is something missing from your site good sir, & I’m wondering – considering how toxic they are to the music industry, & how they’ve jumped around a number of major promotions over the years, have you ever considered making an entry dedicated to The Insane Clown Posse? Every single storyline they’ve been involved in has been a pile of hot garbage, yet I remember ECW, WWF/E, WCW, & TNA all bringing them in as if to say “oh, we don’t wanna lose that juggalo demographic, better bring in the clowns!”. Anyway, when is The Great RD gonna send in the clowns? Haha”
Oh man, ICP…what a crazy period that was. I always thought I was just too much of a nerd to get it so I never inducted them, but now I am wondering if it wasn’t so much that I was out of touch and more that they didn’t actually bring anything of note to the table. Just typing that I am now expecting a barrage of hate mail. Let me know in the comments what you all think.
And with that hot button, I think I shall leave y’all.
