Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – This past weekend’s Crown Jewel event featured the surprise return of one of WWE’s most adored wrestlers, Hiroki Sumi.
Diehard fans and wrestling historians remember Hiroki Sumi’s legendary debut at the Greatest Royal Rumble in 2018. Sumi made an unforgettable splash coming in at Number 7 for the 40-competitor competition. Fans were stunned into silence as the unknown sumo lightly jogged to the ring and faced off against Mark Henry. Despite being quickly eliminated, Sumi rolled into the hearts and minds of wrestling fans everywhere.
“Crown Jewel’s are always special events,” said Triple H. “This year, we pulled out all the stops. Fans demanded more Hiroki Sumi, so we gave them more Hiroki Sumi.”
Although he did not compete in a match, give an interview, or provide propaganda for the host country, Sumi’s appearance was considered a smash success. Sumi’s mere presence was enough to make Crown Jewel an event to be remembered.
With Survivor Series weeks away and Royal Rumble on the horizon, fans are already speculating. Wrestling journalists and hangers-on are hotly debating if Sumi will be a heel or babyface. Some suggest that his overwhelming popularity makes it moot and expect him at the top of the card. Many believe a clash against long-time champion Roman Reigns at Wrestlemania is an inevitability.
Merchandise sales are at an all-time high. Chants of “Hiroki Sumi” have already hijacked house shows. Sumimania is about to run wild all over the WWE Universe.
