New Orleans, LA – Former champion The Rock announced a Mortal Kombat-style tournament this past Friday in order to steal WWE Champion Cody Rhodes’s soul.
The confusing announcement was made on Smackdown to a stunned live audience. After asking Cody Rhodes to be his champion, Johnson promised to make all of his dreams come true. Then, the Hannah Montana guest star told Rhodes that he wanted his soul. It was a jarring and unexpected desire that left many shocked.
In statement afterwards, The Rock clarified that a tournament would be held in the Earthrealm featuring seven WWE Superstars. The winner would face The Rock, not in a match, but in mortal kombat. The winner would become WWE Champion, and lord of both Earthrealm and Outworld. The loser would lose their soul.
While the addition of soul collection is new for the WWE Champion, Rhodes is taking it in stride.
“Luckily, I have adrenaline in my soul,” said Rhodes. “And while every fight of this tournament will be out of control, I will walk out of that curtain, the lights will go up, and I will be home. Whoa!”
The Mortal Kombat tournament will take place after Elimination Chamber, culminating at Wrestlemania in Las Vegas, Netherrealm, and Chaosrealm. Many speculate that other combatants will include CM Punk, John Cena, Seth Rollins, Sub Zero, and Scorpion.
