Jacksonville, FL – AEW star Andrade El Idolo has declared that he will be entering the Royal Rumble despite not working for WWE. During a promo on Rampage seen by dozens of fans, Andrade made the unexpected announcement.
“I have already picked up my first win in the Continental Classic and it is only the beginning,” crowed El Idolo following his win Wednesday night against Brody King. “This tournament is no match for me. Blue league, Gold league. It doesn’t matter. That is why I will throw 29 other men over the top rope and go on to main event Wrestlemania!”
Andrade El Idolo’s feelings towards his push in AEW has been apparent for several years. Clashes with AEW management and fellow wrestlers backstage has highlighted his disdain for the company. Combined with the fact that his wife Charlotte is in WWE, many observers believed it was only a matter of time until he returned to the company.
The announcement has caused a stir in the AEW locker room. While most have chosen not to comment, former WWE star Miro was overheard saying, “Wait, can I do that too?”
WWE officials have remained coy about Andrade El Idolo showing up in the Rumble. There is precedence for non-WWE wrestlers entering the Rumble, so it is theoretically possible. WWE is currently allowing fans to speculate and generate more interest in the event
AEW officials have remained panicked about the situation and are considering giving Andrade his own show on Sunday nights.
