Jacksonville, FL – AEW has surprised wrestling fans once again with a new theme song for one of it’s shows. Collision, AEW’s show on Saturday nights, will now feature Bobby McFerrin’s 1988 hit “Don’t Worry, Be Happy” as its theme.
The odd choice follows Dynamite debuting The Pointers Sisters’ “I’m So Excited.” As clips of wrestlers performing high-flying maneuvers, devastating finishers, and drinking blood flash across the screen, fans will now be serenaded by upbeat whistling and laidback vocals expressing joy and happiness.
AEW president Tony Khan explained the song choice by stating, “As a kid in the 80’s, everyone was singing “Don’t Worry, Be Happy”. It’s instantly recognizable and the message really drives home where All Elite Wrestling is right now. That’s what we want from our fans. And wrestlers. And MAX executives. And my Dad. Please, please, please don’t worry. Be happy!”
The Grammy-winning song has divided fans as some feel that violent wrestling and acapella reggae don’t mix. Fans have agreed, though, that it is a better choice than the Bay City Roller’s “Saturday Night”.
