WCW Jeff Jarrett Slap Nuts foam guitar

Hey, remember when WCW tried to get Jeff Jarrett over with the “Listen up, Slap Nuts!” and “Choke on that, Slap Nuts!” catch phrases?

Yeah, someone thought that “Slap Nuts” would catch on with the public at large.

Anyway, WCW sold this pink (?) foam guitar with “Slap Nuts” on it.

Kind of makes those Hulk Hogan foam fingers seem dignified by comparison, doesn’t it?

I’d be embarrassed to wave this around at a WCW show.

Actually, I’d be embarrassed to own this, period.

Choke on that, WCW merchandise creation team!

Rejected catch phrases included, “Zip it zipperhead”, “Shut up cootieface”, “Neener neener you’re a weiner”, “Off to the powder room with you guv’ner” and of course “Oh yeah quit picking on me or my Dad will buy me a company so I can be World Champion”.

Prior to the 2000 edition of Bash at the Beach, my brother and I waited in the Adam’s Mark hotel to meet WCW wrestlers who were staying there. This ultimately led to my brother hating wrestling for instead of spending time at the beach, we stayed in a lobby for hours on end.

Anyway, after meeting several wrestlers who were, for the most part, extremely gracious at accommodating the mob of fans asking for autographs while they were getting their rooms, we rested for the next days Bash at the Beach. As an aside Goldberg, Cat, Buff, Spice, Keibler, and David Flair were very friendly. (Side side note: When I took a photo with Stacy Keibler, who was wearing a sports bra and gym shorts, my hand may have accidentally brushed up against her lower back and butt) Crowbar and Daffney too. Van Hammer was pissed off and Scott Steiner literally said the F-Bomb when he saw the mob and headed for the stairs. Konnan was the most patient one though as we took several pictures since we weren’t sure how they were coming out.

Back to the main story: Prior to the Bash starting, my brother and I both bought “Listen Up Slapnuts” T-shirts. Yes. We actually thought that was a cool saying, and were Jeff Jarrett fans (Still am). Had I known about this ORANGE foam guitar, I’d probably have bought it too!

You met Daffney…good job man…and Crowbar too!

As for the article, I think Jarrett’s run as neverending TNA champ was far faaaaaar more offensive to wrestling fans.

  4. Wally says:

Slap Nuts… one of the side effects of you and your buddy deciding to double up on a girl.

  5. the14thListener says:

I’ll give Jarrett credit for not revisiting “Slap Nuts” (or some knock-off version of the phrase if WWE kept the copyright) while running TNA. I did hear Bruce Mitchell of the Torch tell a story about going to a TNA house show a while back and seeing fairly expensive souvenir guitars being sold at the merchandise table, but he did not mention that “Slap Nuts” was written on them.

  6. Thomas says:

There’s a market out there for anything. Someone out there must’ve bought this and for a brief, shining moment, thought this was the coolest thing ever, until they realized it wasn’t.

  7. Guilty Party says:

    I had one of these.
Pardon me whilst I hide in shame.

  8. Kurt Williams says:

Slap nuts (and Jeff Jarrett in general) is like “fetch” from Mean Girls. WCW kept trying to make it happen but no one was buying it.

  9. KatieVictoriasSecret says:

Maybe it’s because I grew up on USWA/Mid-South stuff, but I never really adjusted to Jeff Jarrett as a heel. after watching him be a babyface for so many years.

I feel like there needs to be a top ten list of the most repellant/embarrassing pieces of merch put out in the Attitude Era.

  10. miketheunoriginalaboriginal says:

The slap nuts phrase was funny, but the best one was slappy new year.

  11. Idi 'Big Daddy' Amin says:

God, I hate Jeff Jarrett. Always have, always will. The only things I ever found interesting about him were Debra’s shirt potatoes and his 1999 tag team partner. That “Don’t Piss Me Off!” shirt was pretty cool too.

When he left the WWF, I was glad to see the back of him. Some time later—I think late 2000/early 2001—a friend of the family bought me a copy of WCW Magazine, since they heard that I liked wrestling. Wrong company. Imagine my surprise—and my peals of laughter—upon opening the magazine to discover that not only had Jeff Jarrett gone to WCW, but he was their world champion.

And indeed, there were ads for “Listen Up Slap Nuts” t-shirts, hats and other assorted garbage all over that magazine. And even as a fresh-faced, cynicism-free 14-year old, I knew it was the dumbest catchphrase since… well, since “J-E-double F J-A-double R-E-double T, ha-ha,” actually.

Just to bring this miniature missive full circle: God, I hate Jeff Jarrett. Always have, always will.
