I remember back in 2001 or so, ESPN Classics Canada was airing a bunch of hour long AWA compilations hosted by Verne, Greg and Todd Okerlund. They would feature the AWA Best of the 70’s, they had a special on the Road Warriors, the Champions of the AWA and yes, they had a enough footage to make one on Hogan.

Funny thing is, Hogan is talking about Hulkmania before the face run in the WWF. He even did an interview where he and Adre were going to team up against Dr. D and Masa Saito. ANdre uses the term “Giant-mania.”

Hulk Hogan Highlight’s=Triple H, like when he was Hollywood Hulk Hogan. Hulk did have some good matches with Nick Bockwinkle for the AWA Championship but good ole Verne just didn’t think that was a good long term plan. However Groovy Greg Gagne that’s the ticket…on The Titanic.

Gagne sure was one stubborn bastard choosing to stick with his same-old stuff instead of putting the strap on the obvious golden boy (sound familiar). Rumor has it he kept a flag with 49 stars because he refused to recognize Missouri.

  4. Sean Bateman says:

If Vern Gagne didn’t screw Hogan outta the AWA Heavyweight strap, AWA would’ve stayed in business

      It wasn’t just that.

From what I understand, there was a dispute over Verne selling t-shirts and not giving Hogan a cut.

Also, there was a wrestler, might have been Dick the Bruiser, who used to wrestle for Verne full time. After wrestling for Verne full time, he wrestled for Vince when the WWF came to his area. He said that he made more working part time for Vince than full time for Verne.

By that tagline, thought and hoped for sure this video would be about his hair before it receded.
