Someone Bought This: Hulk Hogan: Music Critic!

WWF Hulk Hogan Wrong Kind Of Music trading card

I came across this card from this 1985 Topps card set on the Wrestling Card Trading Collector site

It made me laugh because obviously all they did was have Hulk hide his hand behind the boom box and taped the boxing glove to the front of it.

I wonder what “wrong kind of music” he was listening to that got him so upset?!

Brooke Hogan Uncovored album

Oh.

Well that’s understandable…

I think he was listening to The Wrestling Album and “Stand Back” started to play. I still treasure having the original card set from ’85.

    • Darryl Stewart says:

“Stand Back” was from 1987’s Piledriver album though. Perhaps he was not a fan of Roddy Piper’s “For Everybody”?

      • John C says:

Like Vince hadn’t given him an advance copy to listen to knowing Hulk’s keen ear towards music. And no one could ever blame Hot Rod for being tone deaf since The Hammer put such a clubberin’ on his ears at Starrcade ’83.

Hmm….let’s do the math, shall we?

Year is 1985 + boomboxes are usually associated to hip-hop back in those days + Hulk using a boxing glove (????) = He was the original West Texas Redneck! I’m lost about the boxing glove though…

Oh great, now I got Mr. Perfect singing “I Hate Rap/Rap Is Crap” in my head.

    Metallica’s first demo?

Brooke Undiscovered…I wish I could sue you guys Bischoff style for making me undiscover this.

    • "The Big Cheese" Paul Kraft says:

Hey, we aren’t doing something cruel like forcing you to actually listen to it! 🙂

  5. Sean Bateman says:

Brooke’s Undiscovered album is gonna be Todd in The Shadows’ future target……

  6. Mick Kraft says:

Believe it or not, Hulk really is punching a hole through a (gimmicked) boom box. He appeared in a TV ad in 1984 for a New York radio station in which he, yup, punches through the boom box.

  7. Doc 902714 says:

This is the explanation of the incident on the back of the card if I do remember it correctly.

“WWF champion Hulk Hogan loves music. This boom box however must have been playing the wrong kind of music.”

    Simple yet informative
