Believe it or don’t – I bought this shirt back 1994 or 1995.
And somewhere in a box in my mother’s attic photographs exist of me wearing this while standing beside Savio Vega and Jimmy Del Ray.What kid…
Any age…
Any year…
Buys a Bushwackers shirt over any other wrestler on the roster?
Someone who loves to see two grown men licking children’s heads?
Oh, and in case you were wondering, according to Google…
A hongi is a traditional Māori greeting in New Zealand.
Well considering what a lot of Vince’s top guys in charge were doing to kids, licking their heads was pretty mild.
Simple: Steven Q. Urkel
Hongi? What the hell is Hongi? Was the Bushwhackers short-lived catchphrase?
Like when Hillbilly Jim had that gold horseshoe for like ten minutes?
By the way, my brother and I loved the Bushwhackers growing up. As did my Dad, who otherwise hated wrestling.
There’s always a place for comedy.
I agree, I was a fan myself– in fact I had their first T-shirt, plus the hat. I know “hongi” was meant to refer to something specific, but I’ll be damned if I can remember what it was.
It was the “greeting” depicted on the shirt.
To lock hands and touch noses
Ah! That’s interesting. Thanks for the info. 🙂
I think Hongi is how Mr Fiji says Hogan
IN FACT their theme at the time was the same as always but with them yelling “HONG-GIIIIII!” in tube with the song
When I first heard the theme song I thought they were yelling “HOCKEY!” and I was seriously confused.
In tune*
Maybe it is a misprint. Maybe it’s supposed to say “BONG!” I loved the Bushwackers too but I think it was in the era where they didn’t do drug testing yet. So….
I hate to be nitpicky, especially because I’m the one who claimed to have bought this back in 94 or 95, but I think this shirt is ACTUALLY from 1996. The Bodydonnas were around, The Godwinns, The New Rockers. I think that was 1996….
