Gene suckered me (my parents really, I was 10) out of $200 when he was doing his WWF hotline, so I didn’t fall for it when he did his WCW version.

Oh man I hope this guy can get a hold of Dad’s credit card again, so I can just read stories over a phone and charge $2.99 a minute and $4.99 connection fees. Don’t worry you can trust me or my name isn’t Art Vandelay.

    SCHEEEEEEEEEEEEEMEEEEEE BY GOD GEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEENE!!!!!!

I called the ECW hotline once– it was actually how I found out about WCW Saturday Night being cancelled, so that was pretty cool. But considering the first five minutes was house show recaps, I can see how they make money from it. (Not enough, in ECW’s case)

Um but there was ‘dirt sheets’ before the hot line. I have heard wrestlers from the 80’s talk about them as they would never admit they read anything but they would to learn what was really going on with the office.

Either way those 900 numbers were a GREAT way of getting free $ coming in. Shame they just didn’t know what they were doing.
