I’d like to apologize in advance for once again shilling a video I uploaded myself, but I thought this was something that most people have never even heard of, let alone see. I remember as a young mark, reading the PWI 500 for 1995, and listed at #423 is our old friend the Ultimate Warrior, who had allegedly made a comeback, wrestling the Honky Tonk Man for some company known as NWC (National Wrestling Conference), based out of Las Vegas. It wasn’t until a few months later through another Apter mag’ that pictures surfaced, verifying the appearance.

I don’t know why I gave enough of a crap to remember such a thing, or even try and find video footage out there of this match. I’ve never once came across someone in all my years of trading tapes (not DVD’s, VHS TAPES, for you young kids out there) who had ever even heard of them. Through some magic searching, this was the best I could come up with: A video that first hypes Warrior University, along with a few clips from his Workout Video (Classic Induction request!), then shows us his ring introduction and the finishing moments of the match. Even further ‘net digging brought me to this website, and one of the funniest articles on the Warrior I’ve ever read.

Wait a sec…. did that article have a credit to Harry Simon, he of the awesome Art Donovan induction? Small world.

Wow! I’d never seen this before and had no idea he did this.

Thanks, Louis!

I remember this too. I think the Renegade showing up in WCW was part of the reason for him to come out and make this return.

  2. Joe T says:

I can see why NWC went bankrupt, Hellwig wasted half the companies budget when he smashed Honky Tonk’s guitar. The article is hilarious and does explain something I’ve always suspected, that Papa Shango’s curse is still on the Warrior.

On the side I had forgot about TWF’s article on the “Weapon of Mass Destrucity” very funny too.

  3. "The Big Cheese" Paul Kraft says:

I fixed the YouTube embed. Sorry about that. 🙂

  4. John says:

Best line in the video when the announcer says, “The Warrior is here to stay” yeah that always happens. I want to go to Warrior University and major in DESTRUCITY!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. ScMcS says:

I was satisfied enough just sending the video, but finding that link to the Warrior article was so fucking good, I had to put the link, too.

  6. Peter says:

Did anyone actually ever go to Warrior University though? I would love to hear someone’s experiences on that someday. A wrestling school run by the Ultimate Warrior just sounds too far fetched to actually be true, like a TV sitcom idea or something.

  7. Peter says:

    Okay I did find this:

To summarize, Warrior wasn’t impressed with a majority of the guys there, no surprise there, but three actually made it but he swore them to secrecy to not reveal they graduated from Warrior University. That sounds about right coming from him.

  8. big says:

While I think Warrior University might be a party school, I suspect it’s still probably not a safety school.

  9. Sean Bateman says:

Le me get this straight. Parts Unknown is a suburb of Scotsdale?

  10. Greg says:

My guess is that the next guys out to the ring hurt themselves on the pieces of Honky’s guitar that nobody bothered to pick up. That sounds just about right for Hellwig. Ruin the careers of guys he’s never even been in the ring with.

  11. Bone White says:

When he looks down his glasses during the interview, he looks like the world’s most psychotic bank manager

  12. Mr. #2derful says:

    National Wrestling….Conference?

  13. 80's Guy says:

“rambling” to the ring??? Odd choice of words; just stuck out in my head.

How cool would it be to have a Warrior University shirt, though? I actually still have an old Shawn Michaels’ Wrestling Academy pamphlet/catalog thingy I got when I requested info, and a “let down” letter on WWF letterhead when I sent a resume all the way to WWF for a job when I was a kid. Gotta find those things…
