It Came From YouTube: Strike Force loves Hostess Potato Chips- and free WWF stickers, too!

This commercial for Hostess Potato Chips aired in Canada in early 1988 to promote WWF WrestleMania IV (oh, and also to promote Hostess Chips, of course!).

In it, the scheming (and hungry… but mostly scheming) Strike Force steals Mean Gene Okerlund’s delicious Hostess Chips.

And even worse, they also got the WWF sticker that’s inside the bag!

And remember, Strike Force were supposed to be good guys! Talk about being great role models. Nice way to set an example for the kids, guys! Sheesh…

All that’s missing from the commercial is this sound effect playing at the very end as Gene shrugs his shoulders and sighs with exasperation…

Few people know this, but the real reason Strike Force broke up is because Rick accused Tito of eating the last of the Hostess Chips behind his back without offering him any!

I swear it’s true! I think I read it in the Wrestling Observer or on the Inside Lords Of Rajah’s Pulse site or something.

He also insinuated that Tito nabbed the prized and highly sought-after “Leaping” Lanny Poffo sticker out of the chip bag and stuck it on The British Bulldogs’ mascot Matilda’s rear end before Rick had the chance to put it in his Panini Sticker Book.

It’s just so sad when snack foods and promotional stickers come between two good friends and co-workers like this.

Not since the last WrestleCrap Radio LIVE have I been so fascinated by an incident involving snack chips, I tell you!

There’s just one last thing I have to know!

Mr. Savage? What do you think of Hostess Chips?

Yikes! Okay, thank you, Randy. Very insightful.

  1. Autrach Sejanoz says:

“When you’ve got the munchies, nothing else will do”?

Assuming this was Hostess’s slogan at the time, who were they marketing to, exactly? Those people whose favorite time of the day is 4:20?

  2. Dave says:

I remember those stickers were pretty damn cool–I had Hulk Hogan, the Islanders and JYD. Probably others that I’ve forgotten, too.
