Following on form the Angry JR – Gormless Bart Gunn Showdown I had to share one of my all time favourite RAW moments
The most epic of epic fails as one of WWE’s favourite punching bags sounds off at the dorky looking Michael Cole
In this segment JR is supposed to heel and Cole the face – all it ends up doing is making JR an even bigger face and Cole a more insufferable and unsympathetic dork
Spot on, Thomas!
This is a great moment that I completely forgot about. I could watch it on endless loop for days (well, for a few minutes, anyway!).
Wow, that’s actually pretty awesome! Only somebody as deluded and out of touch as Vince McMahon would actually expect fans to turn against the greatest announcer of all time, because he’s playing a bad guy and Vince thinks everybody else is as repulsed by Ross’ appearance as he is, and support Mike Cole, who at that point had the charisma and skill level resembling an Unholy hybrid of the AWA’s Larry Nelson and Mike Adamlee.
“That’s my purse! I don’t know you!”
Let’s see if anyone gets that reference.
Also, listening to Cole commentate back in 99 compared to today, I actually hear a big diff. Yes, he may have been some weird Larry Nelson/Adamle hybrid at some point. However, I used to hear passion and enthusiasm in his voice. Now, he sounds like a corporate robot…”WWE app…headlock by Orton…WWE app…Cena wins…”
Cole a shit.
Bobby Hill. it’s a king of the hill reference.
I win! whoo hoo!!!!
Issue with this, while I’m not anti – “Kicking Cole in the nuts” is that it was terribly done, and was really crap-tastic. And to someone above’s point, showed how out of touch McMahon, or his writers, were.
Yays! You win!
Now we need someone to say this to Cole:
I am still to this day 100% convinced that the idea for Jimmy Wang Yang came from the King of the Hill episode where Kahn becomes a redneck…
Hmmm, that makes a lot of sense now that I think about it.
Is Michael Cole the Ultimate Warrior of announcers? Way to no-sell the kick, unless he is missing something that would make a kick to that area fell a normal man to their knees..
Unsettling thoughts; share ’em if you got ’em.
While it’s always enjoyable seeing Mikey Cole get booted in the sack it was just an uncomfortable angle playing off JR’s disease and making him the bad guy. It was always a head scratcher why Vince was so obsessed with turning JR into a heel
Especially since JR always had the fans behind him 100% and consequently wasn’t going to get heel heat no matter how hard he or anyone else tried to make it happen.
You forgot to mention it’s ANGRY Jim Ross kicking Cole in the nuts!
This angle also included JR setting up his own mini-announcing table right in front of Cole’s, in defiance of the WWF brass who didn’t want him there!
Dialogue went something like,
Cole: “I can’t see in the ring. I’ve got a cowboy hat in my face.”
JR: “Keep it up, and you’ll get a cowboy boot in your @$$!”
Then of course Mitchell Cole would go on to have his personal announce booth, ahhh how crap flows.
No-one thought of branding it the Tool Shed particularly when Edge branded him a tool…
